Forest Bath Therapy In The Middle Of A Metropolitan City

JAKARTA – Have you ever heard the term Shinrin Yoku from Japan?

Shirin Yoku is a health therapy which literally means Forest Bathing.

Forest Bathing is as simple as going to the forest for a moment to get in touch with nature.

The activity of walking in the forest has been a trend among urban communities in Japan since the 1980s and was inaugurated in 1985 after it was proposed by the Ministry of Forestry and later became a national public health program.

The point is to relax, break away from the routine, enjoy the environment, and focus on nature.

To dive into this pleasant experience, it is recommended that electronic devices and social media be disabled.

Doctor and researcher Qing Li, in his book Forest Bathing: How Trees Can Help You Find Health and Happiness mentions forest bathing provides great health benefits.

Mainly lies in two things, namely the high oxygen uptake in the forest and the availability of plant chemicals called phytoncides.

A forest bath can be a way to release tension and balance your body.

Meanwhile, The New York Department of Environmental Conservation notes that studies have found that taking a forest bath or simply spending time in nature can boost the immune system, lower blood pressure, reduce stress and improve mood.

It can even help improve the ability to focus, including in children with ADHD), speed recovery from illness or surgery, increase energy, and improve sleep.

But if you can’t go to the forest for a weekend in the near future, try visiting a city park with shady trees.

Unfortunately, not many residents can do forest bathing in the metropolitan area and even if there is it can be in city parks.

Knowing the various benefits of forest bathing has prompted two property developers, JSI Group and Swire Properties, to present residences equipped with forest areas that allow residents to bathe in the forest.

“We built the Savyavasa Apartment apartment which is located in the center of Jakarta on an area of approximately 3 hectares and a 1 km long jogging track that is maintained in its greenery, which is called the last reforestation plot of the European City Park Movement,” said Ainsley Mann, Head of Swire. Properties Indonesia & Vice President of PT Jantra Swarna Dipta in his statement, Saturday (19/3/2022).

He said residents can walk through the forest while their fingers touch the leaves and tree trunks they pass while looking at the green trees and blue sky.

“Essentially, we want to present a residential area that allows residents to relax, escape from routine, enjoy the environment, and focus on nature so that they can bathe in the forest,” he said.

So there is no need to go to the real wilderness, but it can be done around a park in a residential area or a shady jogging area.

“The apartment that we have built is a residence that prioritizes privacy and physical and spiritual tranquility in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Jakarta.

The location in South Jakarta can be a prestigious residence as well as a prospective investment in the future,” he said.
